Design Principles
DESIGN IS NOT A STYLE. IT'S A DECISION.
EVERY DETAIL HAS A PURPOSE.
URBN HOOP® was not created through decoration.
It was created by consistently asking how streetball in public spaces could be played better, maintained more efficiently, and built to last.
Form, material, and function come together in every detail.
THE ICON REMAINS.
THE SYSTEM BEHIND IT IS NEW.
The basketball hoop is one of the most iconic symbols in sports. Its silhouette remains familiar. The net system, materials, and engineering details have been fundamentally reimagined.
THE ROPE CONNECTOR.
ROBUST. THOUGHTFUL. ENGINEERED FOR LONG-TERM USE.
The open design of the rope connector ensures controlled guidance of the paracord rope while reducing concentrated stress at transition points.
The result is smoother play, less material stress, and a durable, precision-engineered connection between the rim and the net.
Manufactured from robust Polyamide 6 and engineered for long-term outdoor use.
THE RIM. 26.9 MM.
A DELIBERATE CHOICE. BUILT FOR STREETBALL.
Early in the development of the URBN HOOP®, one requirement was clear: the net had to withstand continuous use in public spaces. That is why 8 mm Paracord became the structural basis of the system.
Rim and net were developed as one unit. A classic basketball hoop with a 20 mm rim and an approximately 6 mm net has a ratio of 3.33 : 1. With a 26.9 mm tube diameter and an 8 mm rope diameter, the URBN HOOP® achieves a ratio of 3.36 : 1 – virtually identical.
The decision to use 26.9 mm was deliberate, even though FIBA specifies a maximum diameter of 20 mm for the rim material used in competition basketball. For the streetball court, other requirements were decisive: durability, proportion and the interaction of all components.
The URBN HOOP® was not developed to copy an indoor competition hoop. It was developed for the street.
The durability of the 8 mm net was the starting point.
The 26.9 mm are the consequence.
BUILT FOR PUBLIC SPACES.
ROBUST. DURABLE. LOW MAINTENANCE.
UV radiation, rain, frost, and thousands of shots each season place very different demands on a basketball hoop than those found in an indoor gym.
That’s why every material and every connection has been purposefully engineered for long-term outdoor use.
THE SWISH IS NON-NEGOTIABLE.
THE SOUND IS PART OF THE GAME.
Streetball is more than movement. It has a sound. That’s why the net system was engineered to preserve the unmistakable swish.
